Made by Hand in Hartford

Carole Robb has been crafting decorative boxes in her Hartford, Wisconsin studio for over two decades. Each piece starts as raw wood and is transformed through layers of paint, gilding, aging techniques, and hand-applied finishes. The result is a box that looks like it belongs in a European antique shop, not a craft fair booth.

Every box is different. Carole draws from Italian, French, and Eastern European decorative traditions, combining techniques like crackle finishing, gold leafing, and decoupage. Commissions are welcome for custom sizes, colors, and designs.

From Raw Wood to Heirloom

Select and Prepare

Each box begins with a quality wood form, sanded smooth and primed for the decorative process.

Layer and Finish

Multiple coats of paint, gilding, crackle medium, and hand-applied details build depth and character.

Age and Seal

Antiquing washes and protective sealant give each box the look of something discovered, not just made.
